What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise method that was developed by Joseph Pilates (1883-1967). He believed that we should be balanced equally in body, mind, and spirit. He concluded that our modern lifestyle, bad posture, and inefficient breathing were the roots of poor health. In order to change that, he developed a regimen of exercises aimed at helping correct muscular imbalances and improve posture, coordination, balance, strength, and flexibility.
He also invented a variety of equipment ( Reformer, Wunda Chair, Cadillac and Barrel) based on spring resistance, which could be used to perform these exercises. Pilates is an efficient, effective and safe conditioning method. Even though this method can be a huge help with injury rehabilitation, Pilates is also an excellent method for those seeking to refine movement, increase overall strength, and improve body awareness.
Private and Semi-Private Sessions
A Studio Session is a 50 minute session where the instructor will take you through a workout using Pilates repertoire based on what your goals, needs, and capabilities are. Besides using the Pilates equipment, the Studio also uses small accessories to increase the challenge or to assist the exercise.
At I Am Pilates, the sessions combine classical exercises as created by Joseph Pilates, with more contemporary variations, equipment and modern learnings of biomechanics and physiotherapy. The fusion, along with the fact that sessions are run as private or semi-private with maximum of 3 people, make our Studio Sessions individually focused and a powerful form of exercise.
Our highly skilled instructors can modify or adapt exercises on the spot to achieve the best outcome for their clients. While pricing can be higher than other types of Pilates group classes around, our superior level of service and training, and small session sizes makes our sessions worth every cent!
Initial Consultation: New to Pilates? This is for you. We encourage all new clients to the studio to undertake an initial assessment. This way, the instructor will make sure your program is designed according to your medical history, personal goals and physical capabilities. The initial consultation Is a great way to get familiar with Pilates and its principles, and to learn to use the machinery safely.
Semi-private Session: A small group session yet intimate and personalized. You will enjoy a fun and tailored session based on your goals, needs and fitness level. Semi-private sessions will be either 3:1 or 4:1 ratio.
Duet Session: A session to be shared with a family member or friend who shares the same goals as you and would like to have exclusive instructor attention.
Private Session: A one-on-one experience where the instructor will design a fun, creative and challenging session based on what you would like to achieve, including increased fitness levels and/or rehabilitation.
